Mutual Soundz are a music production duo from South West London consisting of two brothers, Chrisiyo and Richard Femi.
Born and bred in Brixton, the brothers’ collaborative music journey began in the winter of 2012 with the formation of Mutual Soundz and they have spent the last decade honing their craft by producing instrumentals, songwriting with artists and releasing projects of their own. Drawing from an eclectic range of musical inspirations that reach far beyond the council estates they grew up in, Mutual Soundz effortlessly switch from soulful, downtempo R’n’B tracks (“Chillax“), to nostalgic, hard-hitting beats reminiscent of the boom-bap era, with its punching drums and warped, dream-like samples (“Facing the Dark Empty Night“).
In 2018 the brothers released their first self-produced project – The Blue Dream EP (2018). This was followed by Deep Thoughts (2019), a collection of instrumentals which delve deeper into the contemplative mood that had characterised their earlier release. With its shorter track lengths and fading interludes, Deep Thoughts could be seen as a collection of musical vignettes – each track inviting the listener to complete the work by filling the verses with thoughts of their own. The album also features two contributions from fellow UK-based music producer Tybical (“Game of Chance” and “Here To Stay“).
In 2021 Mutual Soundz teamed up with UK rapper XYM to create Black Gold, an exploration of Black Britishness, racial injustice and social inequality.
